You will learn how to make a chair and you will take it home with you.

Eiqht Quater, what's that?

It is a measurement of wood thickness. It usually refers to rough cut lumber. If the lumber is finish planed, it would be listed in 'inches', like 2 inches. The numbers refer to fractions. Eight quater ( 8 / 4 ) means the wood is eight quaters of an inch thick, or 2 inches. Six quarter would be 1.5 inches thick.

For the seat of a Windsor chair, I start with a kiln dried board that is 2 inches thick (8/4). I want the seat to be completely dry and the thickness of 2 inches gives the strength needed for a seat.
